Johnson City school students take part in annual ‘Rejoice in the Arts’ performances

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson City school students participated in an annual art show and concert called “Rejoice in the Arts” this week.

The program took place both Monday and Tuesday in the Mall at Johnson City and featured an extensive lineup of performances by various Johnson City schools and grade levels. Student artwork was also on display in the mall throughout the entire event.

Each performance night began with different elementary schools, then middle schools, and finished both nights with a performance by Science Hill High School students.

Cherokee Elementary’s music teacher Thomas Richardson said some songs he taught his students were songs he performed when he was a student at Johnson City Schools.

“I actually got to perform this back when I was a fifth grader coming through Johnson City Schools,” he said. “And now, getting to have my own kids that I’m teaching, [to] get to do performances and show the hard work and the amazing talent that we have here in Johnson City Schools. I think that’s really special.”
