According to a police statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake just after 12:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday morning was “observed operating a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane of travel.”

A Sag Harbor police officer pulled the entertainer over and “determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition. Mr. Timberlake was placed under arrest, processed and held overnight for morning arraignment.”

After being arraigned at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Timberlake was “released on his own recognizance,” according to the police statement. Court papers also cited by AP in its own report added: “His [Timberlake’s] eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”

Timberlake’s next court appearance is set for July 26.

Sag Harbor criminal defense lawyer Edward Burke Jr., who is representing the singer and Hollywood actor, told THR on Wednesday, “I look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake on these allegations. I will have a lot to say at the appropriate time but am currently awaiting full discovery from the District Attorney’s office.”

Sag Harbor police and Timberlake’s rep have not yet replied to THR‘s requests for comment.

The DWI arrest and release comes ahead of Timberlake having two concerts scheduled at the United Center in Chicago this weekend, and two more Madison Square Gardens dates in New York City set for June 25-26.

Timberlake’s Forget Tomorrow World Tour is in support of his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought I Was. His latest album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, becoming the reigning Prince of Pop’s first album since 2002’s Justified to not take the top spot.

Timberlake is no stranger to glaring media attention, having broken out as part of the wildly successful ’90s boy band NSYNC, before going on to a multiplatinum Grammy-winning solo career. He’s also received acclaim for his work as an actor, starring in films like The Social Network, Friends With Benefits, Trouble With the Curve and Reptile.
