Karen Spencer Shares Statement Following News of Divorce from Charles Spencer: 'Just Processing at the Moment'

Charles and Karen Spencer are divorcing after nearly 13 years of marriage

Karen Spencer is "processing" her divorce from her husband of nearly 13 years, Charles Spencer.

In a post shared to her Instagram on June 21, the Countess Spencer addressed her marriage to the 9th Earl Spencer and younger brother of Princess Diana coming to an end.

"Just wanted to say that I have been overwhelmed by the messages of love and support. Thank you, it has really meant a lot to me," she wrote. "I’m just processing at the moment. Will come back to you soon."

Karen added, "Thought I’d share a few pics from last night's summer solstice gathering," tagging the post of four photos at the Spencer family's Althrop estate.

During her time at the Althrop estate, Karen, 52 — a social entrepreneur and the founder of Whole Child International — highlighted the centuries of history there along with updates to the grounds and farming practices on her Spencer 1508 series.

Karen, who is originally from Canada, documented the process of uncovering treasures big and small from Althorp's remarkable 500-year history.

"Living here has just been one discovery after the next," Karen said in a clip shared on social media last year. "Every day holds a new adventure, sometimes when I least expect it. Everywhere you turn, it's just one incredible thing after the next."

Historian and author Charles, 60, announced his split from Karen to The Mail on Sunday on June 8.

"It is immensely sad," he told the outlet. "I just want to devote myself to all my children and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future."

The Mail on Sunday also reported that Spencer is "becoming close to" Norwegian archaeologist Dr. Cat Jarman — who co-hosts the history podcast The Rabbit Hole Detectives with Spencer and the Rev. Richard Coles — and that they "look very happy together but that it is early days."

Charles and Karen, who married on June 18, 2011 at Althorp, share a 12-year-old daughter, Charlotte Diana, whose middle name pays tribute to Princess Diana.
