Kendrick Lamar Reportedly Shooting Music Video In Compton, Increases Security On-Site

Kendrick Lamar’s victory lap continues. After a completing his triumphant The Pop Out: Ken And Friends concert on June 19, the Los Angeles rapper is circling back once again, this time to shoot a music video in his stomping grounds of Compton, Calif.
TMZ reported on Friday (June 21) that the “Poetic Justice” artist is set to film the highly anticipated visual over the weekend. Law enforcement sources reportedly told the outlet that heightened security measures will be in place to keep the rapper and his community safe. The site says Kendrick’s production company “got all the proper permits needed to pull off the project” and will “pay around $120 an hour to have [security] on hand.” The L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. will send deputies to the scene to monitor the shoot.
The need for increased security is likely amplified due to the recent rap beef between Kendrick and Drake, which came to a public halt last month. The two rappers were going at each other all throughout April and May after Kendrick fired the first shot in “Like That” by Future and Metro Boomin. Drake swung back with tracks like “Push Ups,” “Taylor Made Freestyle,” “Family Matters,” and “The Heart Part 6,” and the feud spawned “Euphoria,” “6:16 in L.A.,” “Meet The Grahams,” and “Not Like Us” from the West Coast spitter.
Speaking of “Not Like Us,” Kendrick poured salt on Drizzy’s wounds at The Pop Out as he performed the track not once, not twice, but six times. The memorable show put LA unity on full display, as Dot brought out a plethora of collaborators, friends, Top Dawg Entertainment affiliates, and fellow California artists. Kendrick performed “Not Like Us” as the grand finale.
The night was heightened by the co-signs present at the Kia Forum event, with people like Tyler, The Creator, Russell Westbrook, Dr. Dre, Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Steve Lacy, and plenty more hitting the stage to support Kendrick.
