Yellowstone fans, I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first? Let’s start with the good. Yellowstone is officially coming back later this year, on November 10, 2024. We don’t know how many episodes are coming or if it’s just one big finale, but we do know one thing for certain. Brace yourself for the bad news, folks: Kevin Costner is not returning to finish the series.

After weeks of sharing his side of the drama between himself and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Costner confirmed on Instagram that he had no part in whatever audiences watch this November. “An update for you guys,” he says in the video. “I’ll see you at the movies.” Though Costner expressed significant interest in wanting to return to Yellowstone for the finale, the actor alleges that he left the set to promote his new film, Horizon: An American Saga—which is due out in theaters next weekend.

“I want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love, that I know you love, I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future," Costner continues. "It was something that really changed me. I loved it. And I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning."

In a recent interview with People, the Dutton family patriarch previously stated that he would only return if he "agreed with how it was being done." One of the rumored sticking points in Costner's contract disputes with Paramount was that Costner possessed final say in how his character met his end on the show. Costner also alleges that his contract stipulated pay for a potential season 6 and 7 of Yellowstone, which Paramount swiftly ended following the announcement that the series would end after season 5.

After nearly two years since the midseason cliffhanger, the season 5 finale will finally reach audiences when Yellowstone returns this November. A sequel series starring Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer is reportedly in the works, but it's not official. Sadly, the remainder of Yellowstone will not have Costner. RIP, hasta luego, or H.A.G.S., John Dutton! I can't wait to see how Yellowstone can possibly end without you.
