King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have shared three new singles: “Theia,” “The Silver Cord,” and “Set.” It’s the first preview of their upcoming 25th studio album The Silver Cord, which arrives October 27th.

The Silver Cord has been billed as a more electronic-leaning project to come from King Gizzard, whose members cited artists like Kraftwerk and Donna Summer as inspiration. You can definitely hear those influences on “Theia,” “The Silver Cord,” and “Set,” which trade in the band’s usual rowdy guitars for layered synthesizers and heavy-hitting electro beats — though not at the expense of their usual weirdo appeal.

As the band previously explained, The Silver Cord will be presented in two versions: The original tracklist and an “extended mix.” “The first version’s really condensed, trimming all the fat,” the band’s Stu Mackenzie elaborates in a press release. “And on the second version, that first song, ‘Theia,’ is 20 minutes long. It’s the ‘everything’ version — those seven songs you’ve already heard on the first version, but with a whole lot of other shit we record while making it. It’s for the Gizz-heads… We’re testing the boundaries of people’s attention spans when it comes to listening to music, perhaps — but I’m heavily interested in destroying such concepts.”

King Gizzard also recently announced a handful three-hour “marathon” concerts for 2024 in New York City, Chicago, Quincy, and Austin; find tickets here. Their last album was June’s PetroDragonic Apocalypse.
