What We Know About Mysterious Case of Man Killed on Family Vacation — Whose Wife, Sons Face Charges

Though the murder remains unsolved, on Oct. 25, his wife, Cindy Rainey, and two sons, Bailey and Jack, were arrested and charged with tampering with evidence in connection to David’s death, the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office said.
It took over two years for this apparent break in the mysterious and disturbing case, but questions still remain.

David Left Vacation Home After Argument with Wife
Before he was found dead, David was reported missing by Cindy on July 25, 2021. According to a statement from the sheriff's office, Cindy told deputies that her husband had walked away from the vacation house they had rented after they had gotten into an argument.
David left the home without his phone, glasses or wallet, the sheriff’s office said.

After David was reported missing, deputies conducted a search of the area and found his body that night in a canal in the backyard of the house, the sheriff’s office said.
He had multiple stab wounds and had been placed in the water after he died, according to the sheriff’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.
No One Has Been Charged with Murder, But Investigation Is Ongoing
Cindy, Bailey and Jack were all charged with tampering with evidence, but no one has been charged with murder in connection with David’s death.
Cindy and Bailey were arrested in Flagler County Oct. 25, the sheriff’s office said, and are currently in custody. Jack was arrested in Orlando, where he is also in custody. It’s unclear if they have retained attorneys.
Police have not revealed any potential motive or suspects in David’s murder.

GoFundMe Launched to Benefit Sons Who Are Now Charged
In the aftermath of David’s death, Bailey started a GoFundMe asking that "a charitable donation be made to his sons Bailey & Jack for their future."
It raised $475.

According to his obituary, David was a native of California, but lived in Palm Coast, Fla., with his family at the time of his death.
David was a welder and mechanic on steam and gas turbines, and was a gifted athlete, his obituary said.
"David traveled all over the United States and the world for his work," his obituary says. "He was respected by his peers for his excellent skills, work ethic and dedication to getting the job done right."
