M3GAN stole audiences' hearts and turned its $12 million budget into $180 million at the box office in 2022, and now Atomic Monster and Blumhouse — the studios behind the project — have revealed they are expanding the universe.

As per Deadline, the two companies are working on SOULM8TE, a new feature film which will take place in the same universe as M3GAN.

Things are moving fast because the film already has a release date, a script and a director.

SOULM8TE will be the sophomore feature of Kate Dolan, the director behind You Are Not My Mother. Dolan also rewrote the original draft of SOULM8TE which was penned by Rafael Jordan. Jordan takes credit for the story alongside James Wan and Ingrid Bisu.

IMDb shares the synopsis:

A man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.

"Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness," Dolan says. "Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths."

James Wan, who serves as producer, says, "SOULM8TE is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe. We're excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view".

Jason Blum will produce the project alongside Wan, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott executive producing. Alayna Glasthal is the executive in charge of production for Atomic Monster.

SOULM8TE will hit theaters on January 2, 2026, with previews starting on New Year's Day.
