The Magic Faraway Tree Movie Cast Adds Nicola Coughlan and 3 More
Nicola Coughlan has joined The Magic Faraway Tree movie cast for the upcoming adaptation. She is set to star alongside the previously announced Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy. The film will be based on Enid Blyton’s 1943 children’s novel of the same name.
Coughlan has been cast as Silky, a woodland fairy who can transport visitors to distant magical lands. Neal Street Productions, Elysian Film Group, and Ashland Hill Media Finance (via The Hollywood Reporter) announced the news over a month after Garfield and Foy were confirmed to be leading the movie.
Production for The Magic Faraway Tree movie adaptation will commence later this month.
Who else is in The Magic Faraway Tree movie cast?
Apart from Coughlan, whose portrayal of Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton has been lauded by critics and audiences alike, Baby Reindeer breakout star Jessica Gunning has also been cast as Dame Washalot.
Meanwhile, THR also reported that Lenny Henry (Chef!) and Michael Palin (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) will star alongside Simon Russell Beale (The Death of Stalin) as “a trio of mystical wise men from the Land of Know-Alls.”
Rounding out the cast are Nonso Anozie (Sweet Tooth) as Moonface, Dustin Demri-Burns (Slow Horses) as Saucepan Man, Mark Heap (The School for Good and Evil) as Mr. Oom Boom Boom, and Oliver Chris (My Lady Jane) as Mr. Watzisname. The movie adaptation will be directed by Ben Gregor and written by Paddington 2 scribe Simon Farnaby.
What is The Magic Faraway Tree about?
Based on the beloved The Faraway Tree book series, the upcoming movie adaptation will see Foy and Garfield as a married couple, Polly and Tim Thompson, who are forced to relocate to the far-off English countryside along with their children Beth, Joe, and Fran.
The synopsis reads: “Soon after the family’s arrival in the countryside, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric residents, including treasured characters Moonface, Silky, Dame Washalot, and Saucepan Man. At the top of the tree, they are transported to spectacular and fantastical lands and, through the joys and challenges of their adventures, the family learns to reconnect and value each other for the first time in years.”
