Cause of Death Revealed for Marco Troper, 19-Year-Old Son of Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki

The college student, 19, was found unresponsive in his UC Berkeley dorm room on Feb. 13

The cause of death for Marco Troper, the 19-year-old son of former CEO of YouTube Susan Wojcicki, has been released.

The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau confirmed to PEOPLE that Troper died as a result of "acute combined drug toxicity."

Citing a coroner investigator’s report, SFGATE reported that the UC Berkeley freshman had an accidental overdose as a result of having high concentrations of alprazolam, as well as cocaine, amphetamine, and hydroxyzine in his body.

"The levels of alprazolam and cocaine found in his blood could be high enough to cause death," the outlet reported, citing the report.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau for additional comment.

The findings come over three months after Troper was found unresponsive in his dormitory on Feb. 13.

According to a Clark Kerr Campus spokesperson, the Berkeley Fire Department alerted campus police around 4:23 p.m. local time that they were “attempting life-saving measures” on the teen, and he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Troper’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, previously told SFGATE that the family knew he died of a drug overdose.

“He ingested a drug, and we don’t know what was in it,” she told the outlet. “…One thing we do know, it was a drug.”

Esther, Susan's mother, described her grandson to the outlet as “loving” and a “math genius” who was considering majoring in math and was socially active on campus. “He was everything you could have wished for in a son and a grandson. He was destined to make a difference,” she said. “It’s heartbreaking.”

“We want to prevent this from happening to any other family,” Wojcicki told SFGATE.

Troper’s grandmother also shared a Facebook post on behalf of the family, writing that she and the rest of the family are “devastated beyond comprehension.”

“Marco was the most kind, loving, smart, fun and beautiful human being,” she wrote. “He was just getting [started] on his second semester of his freshman year at UC Berkeley majoring in math and was truly loving it.”

"Marco's life was cut too short. And we are all devastated, thinking about all the opportunities and life experiences that he will miss and we will miss together. Marco, we all love you and miss you more than you will ever know," she added.

Troper is survived by his four siblings, his mother and grandmother, and his father, Dennis Troper.  Susan stepped back from her role at YouTube in 2023.
