  • Maya Hawke is the daughter of Hollywood stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

  • The "Stranger Things" star said she's comfortable with "not deserving" her career.

  • "I think I'm comfortable with not deserving it and doing it anyway," she said.

Maya Hawke is embracing her status as a nepo baby.

The "Stranger Things" actor, the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, recently opened up about living with the label in an interview with The Times of London.

The 25-year-old acknowledged that building her career has been easier because of her parents.

"There are so many people who deserve to have this kind of life who don't, but I think I'm comfortable with not deserving it and doing it anyway," she said.

"I saw two paths when I was first starting, and one of them was: change your name, get a nose job and go to open casting roles," she continued, adding: "It's OK to be made fun of when you're in rarefied air. It's a lucky place to be. My relationships with my parents are really honest and positive, and that supersedes anything anyone can say about it."

Since making her acting debut in 2017, Hawke has secured roles in projects directed by Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, and Bradley Cooper.

Last year, she starred opposite her mother in "The Kill Room" and was directed by her father in the drama "Wildcat."

Hawke also recently released her third album, "Chaos Angel."

In the interview, Hawke also backtracked on comments she made to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019 about how she secured her role in Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood."

At the time, Hawke claimed she got an audition "through the normal channels through my agents" and received a callback.

But she told The Times of London that she was "wildly made fun" for suggesting that she was cast in the movie based on her self-tape alone.

"I never meant to imply that I didn't get the part for nepotistic reasons — I think I totally did," she said.

Nepo babies have been a hot topic in recent years.

British singer Lily Allen, the daughter of actor Keith Allen, recently called out the "nepo baby" label on her podcast, claiming that it's almost always used against women.

"Nepo babies, I think it's quite like 'Karen,' in the sense that it's just a word that is basically used for women who are taking up space, and we'd rather they didn't, and they should just go away," she said.

Allen said she understood that having a famous father had given her certain privileges, but she took issue with the "infantilizing" nature of the term.

"It's the 'baby' that annoys me. It's like, I'm 40 years old nearly," she said.
