A Memphis chef is featured on A&E's new show 'Deliciously Twisted Classics'

A Memphis chef was featured on A&E's new food show "Deliciously Twisted Classics."

Chef Phillip DeWayne of Park + Cherry in Dixon Gallery and Gardens was featured on the "Twists on a Stick" episode that aired on July 22.

And as an extra local twist, Memphis food celebrity and WMC-TV "Bluff City Life" host Gina Neely is one of the show's hosts.

"Deliciously Twisted Classics” features a panel of celebrity chefs and culinary influencers — including Neely, Aarti Sequeira, Leah Cohen, Rocco DiSpirito and more — as they sample the most delicious and extravagant spins on familiar dishes.

Neely said she recommended both Dewayne for the show, citing how talented she thinks the chef is.

A Twist on a Stick

For the "Twists on a Stick" episode, the innovative chefs took classics like corn dogs, s'mores, Italian grissini and a full pancake breakfast, kicked the flavors up a notch and turned them into handheld dishes.

Dewayne made a Lobster Corndog.

"The show highlights classic dishes with a twist," he said. "To create this dish, I deep fried fresh cut lobster tail in a waffle batter with a splash of champagne."

Dewayne said he planned to serve the Lobster Corndog as a special the week starting Aug. 1.

He said he was grateful for the opportunity.

"This experience was unique," DeWayne said. "The production crew was local and fun. Everything was super Memphis and made the experience feel like spending time with old friends."

New episodes air at 11 a.m. Saturdays on the A&E Channel and stream the next day. The show that features Dewayne (Season 1, Episode 6) is currently available on A&E streaming services.
