Miley Cyrus on 'Being Taken Seriously' by the Grammys After Working for '20 Years': 'Where the F--- Was I'

In a cover story interview with 'W Magazine,' the pop star opened up about her 2024 Grammys win and the long road to get there

Miley Cyrus certainly earned her "flowers."

In a cover story interview with W Magazine, the pop star, 31, opened up about winning her first  Grammys — for record of the year and best pop solo performance — after working in music for more than 20 years.

“No shade,” Cyrus told the outlet, "but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys? I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the f--- was I?"

She continued: "And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the f--- was I? This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Cyrus reflected on her performance of "Flowers" at the 2024 Grammys.

"I wrote on this dream board that I wanted to show up to the Grammys with a childlike confidence, like when a kid isn’t scared to just dive into the deep end or do a backflip because they don’t know what’s on the other side," the "Adore You" singer said. "My 12-year-old self got to come out and play, while my 31-year-old self was in Bob Mackie with big hair."

For her Grammys set, Cyrus took to the stage in a bedazzled silver outfit and channeled Tina Turner with magnetic choreography and a backing track of Turner's "Proud Mary."

She also teased the audience for their lack of energy by saying,"Why are y’all acting like y’all don’t know this song?” Later, Cyrus even switched up the lyrics in her hit single to "I just won my first Grammy," referencing her win earlier in the ceremony in the best pop solo performance category for "Flowers."

The Hannah Montana star ended the performance with a dramatic mic drop and strutted off the stage.

Cyrus had previously graced the Grammys stage in 2019, when she joined forces with Shawn Mendes for a duet of his song "In My Blood."

The "Wrecking Ball" hitmaker made her Grammys debut in 2009, when she joined Taylor Swift to perform "Fifteen," the classic from Swift's second album, Fearless.
