Miley Cyrus apparently knows that beauty is pain — and no pain, no gain. In a recent interview with W Magazine, the pop star revealed that she, remarkably, works out in heels.

“My mantra is, like any athlete, ‘Practice how you perform.’ So that’s why I practice in my heels,” Cyrus said. “The gym looks really tough, but then I’ve got my ivory Gucci slingbacks because they remind me of Marilyn Monroe. I train in heels, mostly.”

Beyond practicing how she performs, the artist explained the decision to forgo traditional training shoes also has to do with bringing a sense of womanhood into the historically masculine setting. “I’m interested in feminizing the workout space, because so much of the workout equipment is ugly,” she told W.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cyrus detailed her personal relationships with Beyoncé and Dolly Parton, confirming the latter prefers fax as her primary mode of communication, as well as her feelings on finally receiving Grammy recognition after decades in the industry.

“No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys?,” she said. “I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the fuck was I? And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the fuck was I? This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself.”

Cyrus took home Record of the Year for “Flowers” at this year’s Grammys. She also performed the song live during the ceremony. See where the tune landed on our Best Songs of 2023 list.

Cyrus’ most recent album was 2023’s Endless Summer Vacation. She also guested on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter and covered “Psycho Killer” for A24’s Talking Heads tribute album.
