The Players debuted the children's theater series last month. It's sponsored by DTE and Altrusa International Foundation of Monroe, Inc.

Each show is hosted and narrated by Mother Goose, played by Val Jonas. This month, JT Seymour will play the rabbit. Gary Jenkins is the turtle.

"Well-known characters come alive in interesting and unique ways," said Nancy Williams, with the Players. "Each month, Mother Goose brings us together to meet her special costumed friends and tells us favorite stories adapted for performance by a team of Monroe Community Players."

The series is geared to children up to third grade.

"Aesop’s Fables dates back to the 5th century. That means that these stories have been told for over 1,500 years," Williams said. "The fables, numbering 725, were originally told from person-to-person, not only for entertainment purposes, but largely as a means for relaying or teaching a moral or lesson. There are indeed lessons to be learned from each fable. Of course we don't have time to tell 725 stories, but we will be doing some that rabbit and turtle have requested Mother Goose to read."
