Sure, it’s not easy being a king, but have you tried being married to one? After teasing it earlier this year, A24 has shared the first full-length trailer for Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s upcoming biopic based on Mrs. Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me.

American high schooler Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) is still adjusting to her family’s relocation to Germany when — in a moment almost too good to be true — she meets one Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party. It doesn’t take much for the world’s hottest star to become smitten, much to the (understandable!) chagrin of Priscilla’s parents: “Just what is the intent here, Mr. Presley?” her father asks. “Why my daughter?”

Elvis justifies pursuing a girl ten years his junior because “she’s much more mature than her age,” a remark that usually doesn’t come from the most well-meaning men. But how could a working-class teenager like her turn down the Elvis Presley, especially when he’s giving her fancy new clothes? As their relationship continues, we begin to see evidence of Elvis’ controlling hand, starting with her new jet black hair and vampy eye makeup at his request. “I don’t know if I like it,” she says after the initial makeover. Her voice is soft, but her reluctance speaks volumes.

Elvis and Priscilla’s relationship only gets rockier the more time they spend in the spotlight, and not even a picturesque wedding or parenthood can repair the damage. Of course, the whole thing comes packaged in Coppola’s signature hauntingly sublime style — it’s especially reminiscent of Marie Antoinette in its feminine haze and deliberately era-inappropriate music. See the full Priscilla trailer below ahead of its theatrical premiere November 3rd.

Priscilla also stars Dagmara Domińczyk, Raine Monroe Boland, Emily Mitchell, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll, Jorja Cadence, and Luke Humphrey. It’s the second Presley-related biopic to come out in the past couple of years, following Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.
