Make Music Day 2024 features events in Kansas City, across Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missourians of all ages and skill levels have a chance to participate in hundreds of free outdoor musical events on Friday, June 21 for Make Music Day. The festival will take place across eight Missouri cities: Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Liberty, Columbia, Neosho, Rolla, Springfield and St. Louis during the summer solstice.

Make Music Day is an annual event that encourages participants to perform, teach, learn and experience live music in ways they may have never thought possible.

The participating Missouri cities are eight of the 150+ across the U.S. which will be hosting the event, making the festival the world’s largest annual music event.

“In 2024, Make Music Day will bring musicians out into the streets of almost every major city in Missouri,” said Aaron Friedman, Executive Director of the national Make Music Alliance.

“Thanks to the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education, and dedicated organizers around the state, Make Music Missouri is gearing up for its biggest and best year yet!”

At a June 15 Kansas City Council meeting, Councilman Eric Bunch presented a special action which indicated June 21 as Make Music Day Kansas City for the third year. A following performance of “Take Me Home to Kansas City” by local singer/songwriter David Luther celebrated the action.

In Kansas City there are already over 38 venues and 75 performances scheduled to represent the city’s rich musical history. This year, Bar K will host an afternoon of live music for those who want to bring their dogs along.
