Ahead of Michael Weatherly's return to the world of NCIS in the upcoming Paramount+ series NCIS: Tony and Ziva, he's looking back on a pivotal scene for his character Tony DiNozzo.

During the June 4 episode of his Spotify podcast Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, Michael and co-host Cote de Pablo welcomed original cast member Sasha Alexander to talk about her experience playing SA Caitlin "Kate" Todd on the show's first two seasons. When the trio starting talking about filming Kate's untimely death in the season 2 finale and its aftermath in the season 3 premiere, Michael surprised fans by delivering a behind-the-scenes detailabout his performance in the scene.

"When you got that shot to the head, I was standing behind you," Michael told Sasha in a clip posted on TikTok. "And if you watch the scene in slow motion — this is a little Easter egg for the people at home. There's a blood pack on the back of your head, and blood goes all over my face. So, I flinch right before the blood hits, right before the duck. So I'm flinching right before you get killed."

When folks heard Michael reveal this unexpected detail from filming one of the most pivotal episodes of NCIS, they immediately went to the comments to voice their shock about missing it when watching it on TV.

"I always thought it was [because] he heard the sound or like saw it coming," one person wrote. "I've been saying this for YEARS! DiNozzo flinches right before the shot happens!!!" another screamed. "I never noticed. That episode took us all by surprise," a different viewer added.

As fans know, Kate's death came at the hands of Ari Haswari (Rudolf Martin), who was actually on the hunt to kill Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Kate placed herself in front of Gibbs during a gunfight with Ari and his team, and while everything seemed calm for a second, Kate eventually died from a lone shot Ari took on top of a nearby building.

Looks like we'll need to re-watch the episode for ourselves, ahead of NCIS: Tony and Ziva airing on Paramount+!
