Netflix Swings ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ to Dominate Streaming Top 10 | Charts

While it’s no surprise to see a Spider-Man movie topping the streaming chart in the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, the uninitiated may be surprised to find that this number one film is on Netflix.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” climbed to the top of the streaming top 10 this week following its recent debut on Netflix. The animated theatrical release, which hit theaters back in June, recently debuted on the streamer because of an agreement with Sony, which technically still owns the film rights to the web crawler.

Regardless of where it’s currently available, “Spider-Verse” was a hit, with 1 million U.S. households streaming the movie between Halloween and Sunday. This animated film stars the Miles Morales version of Spidey, and that representation perhaps helped drive an over-index of 24% among Hispanic households.

“Spider-Verse” paced another dominant week for Netflix, as the platform placed eight programs in the streaming Top 10. “Pain Hustlers,” a drama starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans, is second this week, after coming in third last week. That’s followed by “All The Light We Cannot See,” Netflix’s adaptation of the popular World War II novel. The star-studded limited series released all four of its episodes on Nov. 2.

Coming in fourth is last week’s number one, the Jennifer Lawrence comedy “No Hard Feelings.” The next Netflix entry is the nature series “Life On Our Planet,” at sixth. “Minions,” the 2015 animated movie, shows its enduring popularity as it lands in eighth.

Netflix closes its run this week with two macabre series. “The Fall of the House of Usher” is ninth after several weeks in the top 10, while “Till Murder Do Us Part: Soering vs. Haysom,” a creepy true-crime docuseries, is tenth.

There are only two programs that break through the Netflix curtain this week. “Loki” on Disney+ continues to stick around as it prepares to wrap season two on Nov. 9. Meanwhile, “The Morning Show,” the high-priced Apple TV+ drama, is showing some staying power in its third season. The second-to-last episode of the season helped drive the show to seventh place this week.

Over on linear, “The Voice” continues its dominance. The singing competition sits in first for the sixth consecutive week, while also holding onto the fifth and eighth spots. Of more interest is the influx of scripted content to the top 10 this week. Together, these four entries offer a unique overview of scripted broadcast TV on the heels of a fall TV schedule impacted by the recent actor and writer strikes.

NBC’s “Law & Order” is in third this week, and while audiences are likely excited to see the long-running series’ 23rd season, this week’s entry is a rerun. One spot down, in fourth, is another NBC show, “Transplant.” While NBC is in the middle of airing the medical drama’s third season, the Canadian show is already several episodes into its fourth season in its native country.

In seventh this week is “Yellowstone,” which has been a steady presence on the linear chart since CBS began airing the series, starting with the first episode of season one, on the broadcast airwaves as a way to drive viewership amid the strikes. Finally, in 10th, we have the longest-running primetime scripted TV series, “The Simpsons” – and the only one of the four scripted shows in this week’s top 10 that actually aired a new episode. The series’ annual Halloween special, “Treehouse of Horror,” aired on Sunday, Nov. 5, as part of its 35th season.

The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by perennial reality and competition favorites. “Dancing With the Stars” sits in second this week, up from third a week ago. Meanwhile, “The Golden Bachelor” is sixth and “Survivor” is ninth.
