‘Cristela’ Debuts Solid, ‘Whose Line’ Leaps, ‘Blue Bloods’ & ‘Shark Tank’ Even As ABC Wins Night In Demo – Ratings Rat Race

The final piece of the fall season Friday puzzle has been placed on the board, and it fit quite well indeed. The premiere of ABC’s multi-camera comedy Cristela (1.3/5) got off to a good start in its 8:30 slot. While nowhere near the 2.3/8 that the now-cancelled fellow comedy Malibu Country got in the same slot for its debut on November 2, 2012, the first show of Cristela Alonzo’s law-student sitcom bested last year’s second-season 1.2/4 start of the also-now-canned Neighbors on September 20. Perhaps even more promising for ABC is that not only Cristela the No. 1 scripted show of the night among adults 18-49, but it topped its veteran lead-in Last Man Standing (1.2/5), which dipped 7% from its fourth-season debut last week.

The rest of ABC’s night was pretty feel-good too – at least ratingswise. Entrepreneurial reality series Shark Tank (1.9/6) came in as the top-rated show of the night overall among the key demo and even with its October 3 airing. Also Shark Tank tends to see a rise in the final numbers’ adjustments, so those ratings could go up later. Newsmag 20/20 (1.2/4) was down a tenth from last week but even

among the 18-49s with its time slot rival CBS’ Blue Bloods (1.2/5), which was even with its October 3 show and its Season 5 premiere the week before. Still the Tom Selleck-led cop drama again was the most-watched show of the night with 10.83 million tuning in. With 9.17 million viewers, the second-most-watched show of the night was BB’s lead-in Hawaii Five-O (1.3/4). While down from the 9.77 million who watched the 50th-state-set show last week, Five-O was even among the demo with last Friday

All said and done, ABC won Friday for the third week in a row among adults 18-49 with a 1.5/5 rating, while CBS was once again No. 1 in total viewers with 8.66 million watching.

In the 8 PM slot battle of the reality shows, CBS’ The Amazing Race (1.1/4) slipped 8% from last week but still whooped Fox’s Utopia (0.7/3), even though the latter rose 16% from its October 3 result. The CW’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.6/2) was also up with a 49% surge over last week’s 8 PM show. The CW’s only other original of the night was America’s Next Top Model (0.4/1), which matched its last show last Friday.

NBC’s only original of the night was a two-hour Dateline (1.0/4), which dipped 9% from last week’s broadcast.
