Kidman says they're "moving fast and furious, and Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book."

Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are preparing to revisit the Blue Blues cafe once again.

In a Vanity Fair video published Tuesday, the actresses confirmed that they're actively working to bring about a third season of Big Little Lies.

"Listen, this one already went somewhere and said too much," Witherspoon teased, seemingly referencing when Kidman announced that a third season of the Emmy-winning HBO show was on the way at a golf event last year. "I get the ring-ring, 'Hey, is that happening?' Nic! You got excited."

A laughing Kidman admitted, "I got excited."

After Kidman let the cat out of the bag, Witherspoon started receiving phone calls from their fellow costars Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, and Laura Dean about whether or not they were actually returning for a third season, she said.

"But we are now!" Kidman declared. "We're moving fast and furious, and Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book. We're in good shape."

Moriarty is the author of the best-selling 2014 novel Big Little Lies, which was the source material for season 1 of the show; she is also an executive producer. It wasn't immediately clear if Kidman's remarks meant that Moriarty is working on a sequel book that would serve as the basis for a third season, or some other written material. She previously penned a 200-page unpublished novella that provided the template for the show's second season, which aired in 2019.

An HBO spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly that the network didn't have any information to provide, and reps for Kidman, Witherspoon, and Moriarty didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

For now, Kidman said, all that's left to do is to "shut up, because there's the whole thing that you should never talk about something until you've done it." She elaborated, "Because if you talk about doing it, it's the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you've done it. Did you know that?"

Witherspoon noted that she hadn't heard such a thing, but operates on a similar rule: "Don't be full of s---." She added, "Because how many people tell you they're doing X, Y, Z, and it's like, I don't want to talk about it until I'm standing in the costume on then set. Then I will confirm to you that it is happening, because it's really hard to stop it once you're on set in costume."

Rumors of a potential third season of Big Little Lies have floated around since the second season concluded. However, conversations appeared to end after the death of the show's original director, Jean-Marc Vallée, in December 2021.

Now, however, it seems the show's stars may find themselves returning to Monterey very soon.
