No Plans For Season 4 Of ‘Dave’ As Dave Burd “Presses Pause” On FXX Comedy To Do Other Things

Dave is taking a break.

There are “no current plans” for a fourth season of the FXX comedy as co-creator and star Dave Burd “presses pause” to focus on other things.

More from Deadline

Burd, otherwise known as Lil Dicky, has long talked about his music career and wanting to record more albums. Penith, the soundtrack to Dave, featuring the single “Mr. McAdams,” was released last month.

“Making Dave has been and continues to be a dream come true,” he said. “But there are other creative ventures that I am dying to pursue as well. For the past 5 years, I’ve poured every fiber of my being into the show, and after three amazing seasons, this feels like a good time to press pause to give myself the bandwidth to do some of the other things I have always wanted to do. I am beyond excited about what I have planned for the future and am enormously appreciative of FX for their continued partnership.”

Dave has run for three seasons, launching in March 2020. The series, which is based on his life, is centered on a neurotic man in his late 20s who has convinced himself that he’s destined to be one of the best rappers of all time.

The second season premiered in June 2021 and the third in April 2023.

The move has been described as a Curb Your Enthusiasm-style break, named as such for previous long gaps between seasons for the Larry David comedy, which ironically was co-created by Curb’s Jeff Schaffer.

If Dave does not return, he will certainly have gone out on top with [SPOILER ALERT] that Season 3 finale starring Brad Pitt and Rachel McAdams.

The series stars Burd, Taylor Misiak, Andrew Santino, GaTa, Travis Bennett and Christine Ko.

Burd and Schaffer executive produce along with Saladin Patterson, Kevin Hart for Hartbeat Productions, Scooter Braun for SB Projects, Greg Mottola, Marty Bowen, James Shin, Scott Manson for SB Projects, and Mike Hertz. The series is produced by FX Productions.

“After some back and forth, there are no current plans for a fourth season of Dave right now, as Dave Burd has decided to take an extended break to focus on music and other ventures,” said an FX spokesman. “That does not rule out the possibility of doing something in the future. We love the show and sincerely appreciate the creative excellence Dave, Jeff Schaffer, the cast and crew delivered with every episode. We are excited that our partnership with Dave will continue as he develops future projects for us through his overall production deal with FXP.”
