It’s Official: Kevin Costner Confirms He’s Finished With Yellowstone — Plus, What This Means for John Dutton

Yellowstone fans hoping against hope that an 11th-hour deal could be struck to allow Kevin Costner to reprise his role of John Dutton for the Paramount Network hit’s final episodes can… Welp, ya can stop hoping. On June 20, the Golden Globe winner took to Instagram to break the news that he was really and truly done.

“I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love, that I know you love… ” he began. “I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue, Season 5 or into the future.”

The drama, which returns November 10 at 8/7c, is already back in production, with Kelly Reilly (Beth), Cole Hauser (Rip) and Luke Grimes (Kayce) reportedly in talks to continue on in a spinoff, tentatively titled 2024. Working on the mothership, said Costner, “was something that really changed me. I loved it and I know you loved it, and I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I love the relationship we’ve been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”

Considering when Yellowstone stopped midseason, adopted son Jamie and his sinister girlfriend Sarah were plotting to off John, odds are the Dutton clan’s patriarch will meet his maker.
