Oshkosh's can't-miss events include dragon boat races, dinosaurs and a pow wow

OSHKOSH - The Dragon Boat Race Festival makes its return to Oshkosh's Leach Amphitheater Sept. 16.

Other events set to take place this week include Jurassic Empire, featuring life-size dinosaurs, and the Inter-Tribal Pow Wow at Neenah's Shattuck Park.

Here are your five can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Dragon Boat Races take to the Fox River Sept. 16

The N.E.W. Dragon Boat Race Festival is scheduled for Sept. 16 at the Leach Amphitheater, 303 Ceape Ave.

In addition to the races, the festival includes a multi-ethnic food fair, cultural arts and performances, immersive activities, global vendor market, and affinity fair.

Teams of up to 21 individuals of all abilities were able to register until mid-August. Watch them compete for the title of N.E.W. Dragon Boat Race Champions 2023.

2. Life-size dinosaurs coming to Sunnyview Expo Center

Jurassic Empire, a dinosaur adventure, will be at the Sunnyview Expo Center, 500 E. County Y, Oshkosh, Sept. 16 and 17.

Each dinosaur has been recreated from scientific specifications. They are true in size and appearance. They even move and roar.

3. Annual Inter-Tribal Pow Wow set at Neenah's Shattuck Park

The annual Neenah-Menasha Inter-Tribal Pow Wow will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at Shattuck Park. It is hosted by the Neenah and Menasha historical societies.

There will be dancers and drum groups from throughout Wisconsin, and Native American food will be available for purchase. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Earlier in the day at the Neenah Farmers' Market, Clinton Miller, a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Tribe, will perform his own unique contemporary songs.

4. Comic Ali Clayton to perform at Time theater

Fox Valley Comedy will present Ali Clayton at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Time Community Theater, 445 N. Main St.

Clayton spent eight years in Chicago finding her voice as a stand-up. She has been performing comedy for more than a decade and and is the recipient of the famed Carolines on Broadway, NYC "Breakout Artist." She also was a top finalist in the StandUP NBC competition. Clayton’s stand-up has been featured on Viceland, Just For Laughs, Chicago, Sirius XM, and more.

Madison’s Vanessa Pants and Andrew Rynning also will perform.

5. Oshkosh theater group to present comedy 'The Alibis'

Oshkosh Community Players will present the comedy “The Alibis” Sept. 21-23 at The Grand Oshkosh, 100 High Ave. Show times are 7:30 p.m. each evening.

When eccentric billionaire J. Leslie Arlington is murdered, a clueless detective finds the suspects are all reluctant to admit their alibis ... because they were all committing other ridiculous crimes at the time.
