The last Pirates of the Caribbean was seven years ago and saw the fifth film of the franchise Dead Man Tell No Tales see the last of Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow, for now. While the first three films garnered praise, the last two bombed at the box office. Despite the poor reception, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is still hoping for another go at the franchise. In the past couple of years, there were rumors of a revival of the franchise, even one that would feature Margot Robbie. Unfortunately, the film has now been scrapped at Disney.

Depp's relationship with Disney had a falling out during his very public divorce from ex-wife Amber Heard that led to a highly publicized trial in 2022. While he has maintained quite a low profile since then, sources close to Depp said, "Anything is possible." He would be willing to work with Disney again, "if it's the right project." In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bruckheimer seems to double down on that idea saying he "loves" working with Depp and would love it if he came back to the franchise, "If it was up to me, of course. I love having Depp. He's a great actor and good friend... I've certainly spoken to him, but we'll see what happens.

It remains to be seen if a new Pirates film with Depp will happen.
