Playcrafters Barn Theatre will hold auditions next week for its October production, “The Sunshine Boys” by Neil Simon.

Playcrafters will hold auditions for the classic comedy (which premiered in 1972 and was made into a 1975 film starring Walter Matthau and George Burns), to be directed by Jane Watson, on Monday, June 24th from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, June 25th from 6-8 p.m., at the Barn Theatre, 4950 35th Ave., Moline. Performance dates are October 16-18 & 23-25.

In the play, Al and Willie as “Lewis and Clark” were top-billed vaudevillians for over 40 years. Now they aren’t even speaking. When CBS requests them for a “History of Comedy” retrospective, a grudging reunion brings the two back together, along with a flood of memories, miseries, and laughs, according to a synopsis.

The story follows the attempt by a young theatrical agent to reunite his elderly uncle, a former vaudevillian great, with his long-time stage partner for a TV reunion. The two old men have not spoken in twelve years despite their celebrated reputation. Besides remastering their sketch, the two men have numerous issues to work out before returning to the public eye.

If you are interested in auditioning, email office@playcrafters.com with “Sunshine Boys” in the subject line. Please bring your acting resume or a list of your acting experience. Be prepared to read from the script alongside fellow auditionees. Some familiarity with the script would be ideal. No prepared monologue is necessary.
