Polynesian culture and dance coming Jackson High School with free concert Thursday

JACKSON TWP. ‒ The community is invited to learn about Polynesian culture, music and dance at a free performance at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson High School auditorium, 7600 Fulton Drive NW.

Pacific Paradise Entertainment, a high-energy ensemble that showcases island traditions through expressive dance, will perform. The group will showcase dances from Hawaii, New Zealand, Samoa and Tahiti that tell stories and share cultural traditions.

Through a partnership with Jackson, the Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach brings the act to Northeast Ohio. ORMACO's mission is to make music, arts, and culture accessible to all, with a focus on underserved, disadvantaged and rural populations.

Michele Monigold, Jackson High School director of bands, reached out to ORMACO to bring the Polynesian culture to the community as the marching band prepares for a trip to Hawaii in November.

"One of our goals is to educate the entire community as we prepare for our trip. We are not just educating students that are attending but the entire community," Monigold said.

The Jackson High School Marching Band will visit O'ahu to participate in the Waikiki Holiday Parade on Nov. 24. The parade commemorates the attacks on Pearl Harbor. The band made its last appearance in the parade 20 years ago.

About 200 marching band members and chaperones will make the trip.

The ensemble will spend the day before the concert with members of the Jackson School of Arts dancers and band members.

The group will also perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Western Reserve Masonic Community Center, 4931 Nettleton Road, Medina. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For tickets, visit https://ormaco.org/z-world-tour-of-music-pacific-paradise-entertainment/.
