Predator: Elle Fanning in Talks to Star in New Movie Badlands

Elle Fanning is in talks to star in the next Predator movie, Badlands.

Per Deadline, Fanning is in negotiations to star in Badlands, a new Predator movie that is being directed by Dan Trachtenberg.

Fanning is known for starring in movies such as 2005’s Because of Winn-Dixie, 2006’s Déjà Vu, 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, 2011’s Super 8, 2011’s We Bought a Zoo, 2016’s The Neon Demon, 2016’s 20th Century Women, 2017’s The Beguiled, and 2020’s All the Bright Places.

She also played Aurora in Disney’s Maleficient movie from 2015, along with the 2019 sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. She additionally starred as Catherine the Great in Hulu’s The Great, which ended in 2023 after three seasons.

Fanning will next be seen in A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic directed by James Mangold that also stars Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, Boyd Holbrook, and Monica Barbaro.

What do we know about Badlands?

Plot details for Badlands remain under wraps at this time. The movie is seemingly not a sequel to 2022’s Prey and, instead, will take place “sometime in the future.”

According to Deadline, a direct sequel to Prey, which may see Amber Midthunder reprise her role as Naru, is also still in “early development.” The article notes, “Sources stress no talent is attached to that film but the interesting element is that even though there has been seven films featuring the infamous alien, there has never been an instance where the star of a previous film has returned to reprise their role.”

The original Predator was released in 1987. It was followed by 1990’s Predator 2, 2010’s Predators, 2018’s The Predator, and 2022’s Prey. There have also been two crossover movies with the Alien franchise, 2004’s Alien vs. Predator and 2007’s Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

Badlands is co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. The film does not yet have an official release date.
