Pregnant Model Iskra Lawrence Slams Trolls For 'Fat-Shaming' Her

Iskra Lawrence is shocked at the amount of hate she’s getting after walking the runway at a Miami Swim Week fashion show while pregnant.
The model, an advocate for body positivity, is expecting her second child. She posted a carousel of Instagram photos and comments after seeing the backlash she was getting on the internet.
“I’m still in disbelief that in 2024 (and with everything going on in the world) that fat shaming a pregnant woman seemed like the best use of your time?” Lawrence wrote on her Instagram caption on Wednesday, with her tagged location coyly set to “Troll Under the Bridge.”
“Imagine body shaming a stranger on the internet,” she wrote in text over her first photo, which showed her smiling with her arms wrapped around her stomach.
“That’s 6 months pregnant walking in Miami Swim week more proud of her body than ever after TTC [trying to conceive],” she added on another slide of her at the June 3 fashion show for Cupshe, which has partnered with Lawrence on its swimwear collection this season.
Lawrence said that she “found two kind comments out of hundreds” but found a way to put a positive spin on the rash of critics.
“I do want to thank these trolls for being so obsessed with me that they made commenting on my big fat pregnant body their biggest priority,” she said. “So impressive you have nothing more important to do such a surprise.”
Lawrence’s comment section was filled with support for the model, including a sweet message from her boyfriend, Philip Payne. The two already have one child together, 4-year-old Alpha.
“You understand your responsibility to inspire those who may not be as comfortable or confident to embrace happiness and freedom in their own bodies,” he wrote. “It really is incredible to see you show up and shine every day for your community and supporters no matter the backlash or circumstances.”
Lawrence has routinely amplified a message of body acceptance with her followers and has been open and honest about her experience with body dysmorphia and eating disorders.
In a separate story Wednesday on her Instagram page, the model ensured followers that none of the negative comments will affect the progress she’s made with appreciating her body.
“Don’t worry no negative comments will ever break me or stop me from thriving,” she said. “I worked too hard with ED recovery and body dysmorphia to ever go back to feeling insecure.”
She signed off by saying, “I know my self worth is only determined by me ― and I hope you know that too.”
