Prince William Lets Loose in Untraditional Birthday Portrait With His Kids

Princess Kate kicked off the birthday celebrations for husband Prince William with a fun new family photo.

William, who turned 42, smiles wide in the untraditional birthday portrait, shared to Kensington Palace’s social media channels on his big day today. Kate snapped the photo during a family outing in Norfolk, England, last month.

Kate left a sweet message for her husband in the caption, signing off the note with a C for Catherine: “Happy birthday Papa, we all love you so much! Cx.”

The photo shows William, clad in a navy blue hoodie and salmon shorts, holdings hands with Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, as they joyously jump off a beach sand dune. Louis also holds the hand of his older brother, Prince George, 10, who triumphantly waves his hand at the camera as the family of four arcs through the air.

The Wales kids were dressed casually, with Charlotte wearing a striped sweater and floral shorts. Meanwhile, the brothers coordinated in blue, with George in a dark blue T-shirt and shorts and Louis in a light blue gradient tee and navy shorts.

Kate previously snapped another beach family portrait to celebrate Father's Day last weekend. The picture, released a day after Kate made her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis, captured a tender moment between William and his kids. William stands tall looking at the ocean, while his three children huddle close together near him.

The Princess of Wales previously opened up about leaning on William's support amid treatment for her cancer.

“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance, too,” the royal said in a March video that announced her diagnosis. “As is the love, support, and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

She added, “We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I’m able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.”
