Prince William and Kate Middleton’s marriage has endured a challenging year after kicking off 2023 with the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, but the book was reportedly just the icing on the cake of things that were already brewing beneath the surface. A new report is bringing to light an issue that plagued King Charles III during his marriage to Princess Diana, and now, it seems like history is repeating itself.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ union “has really been tested in the last year or so” and In Touch sources believe that “they’re cracking under the pressure” of work and family obligations in a “slimmed-down monarchy.” The dynamic duo needed a bit of time apart after not speaking to each other for a reported two weeks, so the “palace aides have been scheduling them more and more for separate engagements just so the two of them can cool off. A little timeout never hurt anyone, and it appears that this new strategy is working well for them.

“Kate and William’s joint appearances have always been wildly popular, but now they’re doing more on their own. Any married couple would feel the strain from working together all day, every day,” an insider shared. Prince William reportedly needed the break the most because he “has begun to resent how much more beloved she is. He likes doing events on his own because Kate draws all the spotlight when they’re together.” Like father, like son — they can’t seem to handle strong women overshadowing them.

Tensions got so bad early this year that people began to notice that the Prince of Wales was less than kind to his wife in public. “Like a dismissive comment about her cooking, or when he told her to ‘chop-chop’ to rush her along at a wedding over the summer,” the insider pointed out. “Or he’ll simply ignore her, like in a podcast they did with Princess Anne in September, where Kate could barely get a word in edgewise.” Hopefully, the solo engagements will boost William’s ego while allowing him some breathing room in his marriage. However, he’s going to have to come to terms that Kate is the biggest superstar in the royal family whether he likes it or not.
