Reese Witherspoon reveals why she calls bestie Laura Dern by her last name: 'My name is Laura'

The "Big Little Lies" costars share the same name, it turns out.
What's in a name? Allow Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon to answer.
During a conversation with her former Big Little Lies costar Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon shared perhaps a lesser-known tidbit about herself: her given first name is actually Laura Jeanne. It came mid-story, in a video segment for Vanity Fair, while the two were discussing costar Laura Dern.
Witherspoon began her anecdote, "I called Dern while we were shooting Big Little Lies—"
"I hate how you call her Dern, though!” Kidman interjected.
Witherspoon asked, "Why?"
"Because it sounds weird!" Kidman said.
Witherspoon said, "Do you know why? Because my name is Laura, and her name is Laura, and it’s confusing to me. My real name is Laura Jeanne. So I get confused and just call her Dern. We can’t both be Laura.”
“She doesn’t call you Laura, though,” a puzzled Kidman replied, later adding, "Anyway, anyway, I'll stay out."
The two Lauras and Kidman, plus Shailene Woodley, headlined the Emmy-winning 2017 series Big Little Lies, adapted from Liane Moriarty's bestseller of the same name about a tranquil beachfront town upended by a murder. It ran for two seasons on HBO and also starred Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, Meryl Streep, and Adam Scott.

Kidman confirmed last year that a third season was in the works, but no other details, including a plot and other returning cast members, have been shared yet. Kidman cautiously shared an update in the VF segment after Witherspoon teased her about letting the cat out of the bag.
"I got excited," Kidman explained.
"It’s okay, baby. I get excited too," Witherspoon said. "Then I’ve got Laura calling me, and Zoë and Shailene. They’re all like, 'Nic said that we’re making Big Little Lies season 3?'”

"But we are now!" Kidman quipped. "We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. We’re in good shape. We need to shut up, because there’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it. If you talk about doing it, it’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it."
