Rick Springfield is using his star status for a good cause.

The musician, 74, is hosting a concert in Colorado later this summer to raise money for Pepper's Senior Dog Sanctuary.

The event — called Raise the Ruff and presented by Besty BnB — will also feature a cocktail hour, live and silent auctions and a seated dinner.

"Proceeds from the event help fund our mission and programs helping at-risk senior dogs who are providing animal-assisted learning opportunities to underserved adults with disabilities, neurological disorders and/or learning differences," Pepper's Senior Dog Sanctuary said.

Pepper's Senior Dog Sanctuary is a nonprofit rescue for older dogs.

The organization, per its website, "exists to help ease the overcrowding of local shelters, while providing quality lifelong care to dogs who may have otherwise been euthanized."

"Pepper was a dog that I rescued several years ago. I decided that I wanted to give back to a senior dog during a particularly difficult part of my life, and he ended up rescuing me. I saw the value of senior dog rescue. It's amazing," Mary Leprino, co-founder of Pepper's Senior Dog Sanctuary, said in a statement to CBS News.

She added, "We only pull from shelters and the reason being is because we want every dog to have a chance at adoption; and by the time they come to us they've had no chance of adoption. They've been on the adoption floor, or for medical reasons, sometimes behavioral reasons, they are not a candidate, so we take those dogs that are unadoptable. And they come and stay with us until they lovingly pass with us."
