Before Sabrina Carpenter was making waves in the music industry, she was acting on the small screen!

In 2011, the now 25-year-old singer made her acting debut on Law and Order: SVU. In a resurfaced clip, Carpenter’s character is being interviewed by Christopher Meloni’s Detective Elliot Stabler.

The scene at the beginning of season 12, episode 12, features 11-year-old Carpenter playing a girl named Paula, who was a victim of abuse by a sex trafficking ring.

Her two-minutes of screen time may not have been her big break, but it was the start of a career that has taken the world by storm 13 years later.

Her acting jobs continued, securing a recurring role in the sitcom Goodwin Games in 2013, followed by her claim-to-fame lead role in Girl Meets World on Disney Channel one year later. The Boy Meets World reboot lasted for three years before coming to an end in 2017.

“That was my world and that was my everything and I was so proud to be a part of it and everything that it stood for,” Carpenter told Teen Vogue of the series in 2020.

“I definitely would have done some things different had I been doing it now, but I think the beauty of the show was that we really were at the age that we were playing and we were coming into ourselves as we were playing characters that were coming into themselves,” she continued.

The end of that show was just the start for Carpenter.

After starring in the 2016 remake of 1987’s Adventures in Babysitting, she took on more serious roles in 2018’s The Hate U Give and 2019’s The Short History of the Long Road, as well as teen rom-coms like Tall Girl and Disney’s Clouds.

She also began her music career around that time — releasing music beginning in 2015 — and opening on tour for Ariana Grande in 2017. In 2023, she booked one of her biggest gigs to date, opening for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

In April, she performed at Coachella for the first time before making her Met Gala debut in May.

Another career milestone was being the musical guest on the season 49 finale of Saturday Night Live last month. This marked her debut on the long-running sketch comedy show as she appeared alongside host Jake Gyllenhaal.

Now, her song “Espresso” has been no. 1 on Billboard’s Global Excl. US chart for four weeks in a row, staying on the chart for seven weeks overall. Recently, she announced her sixth studio album, Short n' Sweet, will be released on August 23.
