Sacai's Expertly Tailored SS23 Was Worth the Wait

Sacai's Spring/Summer 2023 showcase at Paris Fashion Week was easily one of the best, for two main reasons: expert tailoring and high quality garment-making. Things that, unfortunately, in the age of DIY aesthetics and constant newness can quickly be forgotten.

Offering an in-depth look at the science behind pleats and folds, Chitose Abe's SS23 was a masterclass in quality and structure, prioritizing quality and craftsmanship whilst still retaining elements of expression and adventure. The collection saw archetypal fashion garments like the tuxedo, trench coat and tracksuit reimagined with splicing and pleating to create new silhouettes.

Featuring subtle flower prints, representative of future life, hope and optimism, the collection saw a number of garments change shape and form as they moved, encouraging viewers to consider new perspectives. Complete with oversized pockets, sequinned sportswear and voluminous sleeves on silk shirts, SS23 was a true juxtaposition of classic and contemporary but with a distinctly wearable quality.
