Salma Hayek Praised Angelina Jolie And Her “Genius” Daughter Vivienne In A Sweet Instagram Post Celebrating Their Tony Win

Salma Hayek is shining a light on her good friend Angelina Jolie.

In case you missed it, Angelina is officially halfway to EGOT status after The Outsiders won big at Sunday’s Tony Awards.
The musical, which Angelina produced, received twelve nominations and won four awards: Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Musical all round — the latter earning Angie her first Tony.
The Outsiders is an adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s 1967 coming-of-age novel centered around the conflict between two rival gangs: the Greasers and the Socs. Angelina was inspired to work on the Broadway adaptation by her 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne, who was the producer’s assistant.
“My daughter Viv loves theater,” Angelina told Deadline last week, explaining how she came to work on the show with her daughter's encouragement. “She went to see The Outsiders at La Jolla about five times and was telling me about it… I was learning what about it was important to her and why it connected so deeply to her.”
And now, with Vivienne to thank for her mom’s first Tony win, Salma is taking a moment to sing their praises.
On Monday, Salma took to Instagram to celebrate Angelina’s win alongside some photographs from the ceremony. “There are some rare humans we already know are brilliant, but it’s hard to grasp to what degree,” she wrote in the caption. “My dear Angie, you don’t cease to impress and inspire me, especially because I know that everything you do comes from a place of love.”
She also gave a shoutout to Vivienne, who she described as a “genius.”
“Congratulations on your well-deserved Tony for ‘The Outsiders’,” Salma continued, “which was named best musical and picked up three other awards after receiving a total of 12 nominations!!”
In case you didn’t know, Salma and Angelina became close friends after making Eternals together in 2020. Since then, the pair appear to have stayed close in each other’s lives, celebrating birthdays together and hanging out with their kids.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight last year, Salma said that she and Angelina have grown “closer and closer” over time, both “as artists” and moms.
“She's been very, very enriching in my life, in so many ways — as mothers, you know,” she told the outlet. “And it's just natural. It's just something that flows.”
