Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze is making his “Saturday Night Live” debut this weekend as the host of the third episode of Season 49. He will be joined by musical guest Foo Fighters, who were supposed to perform last season until the writers’ strike postposed the final three episodes of NBC’s late night sketch comedy program. In a new promo video (watch above), Bargatze is told that he needs to shed his “nice guy” image by cast members Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker, so he goes full-Hulk by vandalizing the iconic “SNL” studio.

“You know what your problem is? You’re too nice,” Dismukes tells him. “Mr. Nice Guy. You gotta be Hollywood, more edgy.”

Bargatze contemplates those words and ultimately replies, “More Hollywood? I can do that.”

New cast member Chloe Troast appears and hands over some “welcome coffee with simple syrup,” to which Bargatze takes the cup and aggressively throws it against the stage. The comedian then tears up his cue card, smashes a guitar, graffitis a TV monitor, flips off the camera and tosses papers up the air.

“How was that?” he calmly asks the trio of “SNL” stars.

As the clip ends, Dismukes, Walker and Troast proudly reply, “Honestly great,” “That was awesome,” and “Really good,” respectively.

Bargatze got his start in comedy in Chicago before appearing on late night programs like “Conan,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The Tennessee native received a 2022 Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album for “The Greatest Average American,” losing to Louis C.K. Bargatze’s most recent stand-up special, titled “Hello World,” was released on Amazon Prime Video in January.

So far all of the “Saturday Night Live” hosts for this 2023-24 season have been male, as Bargatze follows Pete Davidson (October 14) and Bad Bunny (October 21). To compare, last season ended with four consecutive female hosts in Jenna Ortega (March 11), Quinta Brunson (April 1), Molly Shannon (April 8) and Ana de Armas (April 15).
