The second chapter of the Danny Masterson case will begin on Sept. 22, 2025, when the former actor and the Church of Scientology are scheduled to go to trial in a civil case for harassment related to the rape convictions. The controversial religion, headed by David Miscavige, has fought this legal event hard, even petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court to stop former members of Scientology from taking them to court.

It seems that Miscavige and other top leaders reportedly don’t want church secrets to be revealed in the court case. Deadline described the religion as “publicity shy” when it comes to the spotlight, and their lawyers have been trying to get the court case dismissed in order to force the plaintiffs to utilize “religious arbitration” instead. Scientology’s legal team has utilized every avenue to avoid making “the case public,” but it looks like those efforts have now hit a brick wall.

The plaintiffs have lodged some serious claims against Masterson and the church, alleging that “they were put under surveillance by the Church, repeatedly harassed and had pets slaughtered after going to the LAPD with their claims against the actor.” The three women have already successfully told their stories in criminal court, but this will be the civil part of the case — and include the Church of Scientology in this stage of their legal fight.

The Church of Scientology has not commented about the civil trial, but they’ve been quite vocal about a similar harassment and stalking lawsuit related to Leah Remini’s exit from the religion in 2013. While a spokesperson for the church called the accusations “ludicrous” and “pure lunacy” to SheKnows, Remini has filed several additional injunctions because she is frightened for her family’s safety.

The Church of Scientology won’t be staying out of the headlines anytime soon, despite Miscavige’s wishes to keep his group out of the news. With Masterson’s rape conviction appeal, Remini’s lawsuit, and the 2025 civil case, Church of Scientology might finally have to reveal the secrets behind their religion.
