Shirley MacLaine will receive the lifetime achievement award at the 2023 Industry Dance Awards.

Annette Bening will present MacLaine with the award at the event, taking place Oct. 18 at Avalon Hollywood. It’s a family affair: Bening is MacLaine’s sister-in-law, as she’s married to MacLaine’s brother, Warren Beatty.

The ceremony will be hosted by The Talk co-host Amanda Kloots, a former Broadway dancer and Radio City Rockette.

The event is a benefit in the fight against cancer. This year, the Industry Dance Awards and Dancers Against Cancer are presenting the inaugural Stephen “tWitch” Boss Legacy of Hope Scholarship. The scholarship aims to honor Boss “by passing the torch to a new generation of gifted dancers, encouraging and supporting their continued journey and passion for dance via an annual scholarship.” Boss, the dancer, choreographer, actor and producer who got his big break on So You Think You Can Dance before spending nine years on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, took his own life in December.

Other honorees at the event will include:

  • Alison Faulk (Dance Innovator Award Recipient), who is best known for choreographing the Magic Mike franchise and Magic Mike Live shows.

  • Jennifer Jones (Dance Role Model Award Recipient), who in 1987 became the first Black Radio City Rockette and made her national debut at the 1988 Super Bowl XXII Halftime Show.

  • Art and Nancy Stone (Trailblazer Award Recipients), who created the Statler Records and national convention Dance Caravan and are considered pioneers in the production of dance costumes.

Additional awards will be presented for best hip-hop performance, best jazz performance, best open/ballet/acro, best tap, best lyrical, best novelty/musical, people’s choice and choreography of the year.

Commercial jazz legend Jackie Sleight will direct and choreograph this year’s ceremony. Noah Lands is executive producing, with Adrian Ruiz and Matthew Diaz-Caldwell returning as producers.
