SKIMS and Swarovski Dropped a Marilyn Monroe-Inspired Dress — and It's Already Sold Out

Kim Kardashian is letting fans take a page out of her lookbook!

After making waves while wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress at the 2022 Met Gala, the SKIMS founder, 43, has made her own version of the dress as part of a new collaboration with Swarovski.

The Swarovski x SKIMS collaboration launched on Tuesday and features a more glamorous take on traditional wardrobe staples such as bodysuits and loungewear.

One of the already sold-out pieces that is included is a curve-hugging long slip dress that is made out of silk fabric and has "thoughtfully placed Swarovski crystals throughout," according to its official description. It comes in three colorways, and there's no word yet if there will be a restock of the clearly popular piece.

Before the exclusive collection dropped, Swarovski creative director Giovanna Engelbert praised the reality television star's commitment to the collaboration.

"Since I became creative director of Swarovski, I wanted to collaborate with Skims, rooted in imagination of the crystal that morphed into the skin. We worked with Kim on creating body jewelry, and so much more, that can be styled so many ways and truly unlocks the glamour in all of of us. I can't wait to show the full collection very soon," she wrote in a post on Instagram.

Kardashian echoed the same feelings in a behind-the-scenes Instagram video in which she shared she has "always been a crystal girl."

The original dress that was famously worn in 1962 while singing to then-President John F. Kennedy at a Madison Square Garden fundraiser was designed by Jean Louis. The dress originally cost $12,000 and was purchased by Ripley's Believe It or Not at a 2016 auction for $4.8 million.

The fashion mogul revealed how she got to wear the dress during an episode of The Kardashians.

"I flew all the way to Florida to try on the Marilyn dress at Ripley's. They were not gonna let me wear this dress, they were not even gonna let me try it on until Kris Jenner calls... And I was like, 'Please mom, if you make this happen I'll marry you.' I would've done anything," she recalled.

Ripley's shared a video of Kardashian trying on the dress on Instagram and spoke about the detail that went into its preservation.

"Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history," the caption of their post read. "With input from garment conservationists, appraisers, and archivists, the garment’s condition was top priority. Believe It or Not! no alterations were to be made to the dress, and Kim even changed into a replica after the red carpet!⁠"

Indeed, Kardashian changed into a replica of the dress also owned by Ripley's, after posing in it for photographers.
