‘Starship’ to land for end of summer concert

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A decades-long hit-maker will be the featured band for an end-of-summer free concert in Wilkes-Barre.
Mayor George Brown announced on Thursday afternoon that the group “Starship” will rock out in the Diamond City this year featuring one of the original founders, and lead vocalist Mickey Thomas.
The band is known for the 80s hits like “We built this city,” “Nothing’s gonna stop us now,” and “Sara.”
Mayor Brown says last year’s event did exactly what it was meant to do bringing the community together for a rockin’ night on the square.

“Bring them out in the beautiful downtown Wilkes-Barre and it was successful with The Guess Who last year, this year we started a little bit earlier, and we decided let’s bring another top-name band,” explained Mayor Brown, Wilkes-Barre.
“We’re gonna build Wilkes-Barre on rock n roll,” Mayor Brown added.
Starship is set to take the stage on the square on Friday, August 16, starting at 6:00 p.m. Roads around the square will be closed for the concert allowing people to enjoy from surrounding businesses.
