Stephen Colbert blasts Trump for 'The Squad' comments: 'Just shut up!'

On Monday’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, host Stephen Colbert was fed up with President Trump’s recent remarks about a group of racially diverse Congresswomen, known as “The Squad.”

Over the weekend, the president claimed the Congresswomen “originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” and suggested “they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

“The Squad” comprises Democratic congresswomen Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Omar is the only representative who was not born in America.

According to his tweets, President Trump felt that by speaking out against border detention centers and ICE raids, these congresswomen were doing something wrong. During an event on Monday, the president said, “It seems like they hate America.”

Colbert slammed the president, saying, “Nobody complains about America more than you do, you cranky old nut lid.” He went on to say, “Everything in your life has been handed to you, and yet, every other word out of your mouth is a tantrum that would get a toddler dragged out of a ball pit.”

There is plenty of evidence to support Colbert’s claim. Trump famously coined the term “fake news” and frequently complains about the media’s coverage of him. And he also doesn’t shy away from publicly complaining in hopes of furthering his agenda.

Colbert thought since Trump enjoys complaining so much, he might benefit from taking his own advice. “If someone's leaving the country, it should be you,” said Colbert, adding, “And if you're looking for a new home, might I suggest you go to hell.”

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
