Sterling K. Brown momentarily lived to regret his Saturday Night Live impression of Common.

The This Is Us alum, 47, recalled a chance meeting with the 51-year-old rapper on an airplane after imitating him on the NBC late show in 2018.

“He didn’t speak to me until we got off the plane,” Brown told Variety. “And then he came up and said, ‘That sketch, bro. What’s up with that?’ I told him it was all love — I know he’s a good dude.”

During the encounter, the Oscar nominee said Common led him to believe that he lost speaking engagements and endorsements after the sketch aired.

“I kept telling him they were just jokes, but he was like, ‘It’s jokes to you, but it’s messing with my bottom line,’” he recalled.

The Black Panther star admitted the interaction caused him to start to panic, saying, “I said, ‘Common, are you serious?’ And he said, ‘No, I’m just kidding, dude.’”

Once Brown learned the joke truly was on him, the actor shared, “I told him it was the worst thing he’d ever done. I was standing in front of my kids believing I ruined this man’s life.”

In the "Family Feud: Oscars Edition" sketch, Brown impersonated Common by rapping his answers to each question from host Steve Harvey (Kenan Thompson). In response, he said, “You ain’t no rapper, you’re more like a TED Talk set to music.”

The sketch saw Oscars losers Common, Sally Hawkins (Melissa Villaseñor), Willem Dafoe (Alex Moffat) and Timothée Chalamet (Pete Davidson) face off against Oscars winners Frances McDormand (Kate McKinnon), Guillermo Del Toro (Beck Bennett), Allison Janney (Heidi Gardner) and Jordan Peele (Chris Redd) for a friendly competition.

Common was nominated for Best Original Song for Selma in 2015 and Marshall in 2018.
