The weekend of Feb. 9 through 11 celebrates all things Georgia history as part of the Georgia Historical Society's Georgia History Festival.

On Friday, the state's school children will examine "Governing Georgia Across Three Centuries," beginning from Feb. 12, 1733, when British Gen. James Oglethorpe and 114 colonists sailed up the Savannah River on the frigate Anne to claim Georgia as the 13th colony for the British crown. Their motto: Non Sibi Sed Aliis—not for self but for others.
