Tiffany Haddish is returning to the page.

The comedian, actress and producer, 44, announced exclusively with PEOPLE that she will be droppin her second book next year. I Curse You With Joy, a collection of essays and stories, will be published in May 2024 from Diversion Books.

“I’m so excited to share the rollercoaster of success that I’ve been on with my readers, and to show them that just because I’m famous, that doesn’t mean I’m not human,” Haddish tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. “I find the joy in the hardest things in life which you’ll all be able to read about in this new book.”

I Curse You With Joy will explore the ups and downs of Haddish’s life on and off the screen, and what she has learned along the way. Haddish will write about the lasting legacy of her childhood trauma, as well the “bittersweet” reunion she had with her estranged father after nearly 20 years apart.

She will also explore the challenges of being a Black woman in the entertainment industry, where she has made history for being the first Black female comedian to host Saturday Night Live, and garnered roles in numerous successful films like Girls Trip and Haunted Mansion. Haddish also received the Comedy Album Grammy Award for her stand-up special Black Mitzvah, and became the second Black woman to do so, after Whoopi Goldberg.

“Readers love Tiffany for her authentic, heartfelt humor. The Tiffany you meet within the pages of I CURSE YOU WITH JOY is the same Tiffany that Beyonce and Jay-Z meet at the Grammy’s after party. She’s your best friend who made it big, and she is still keeping it real,” says editor Elizabeth Gassman in a press release.

Haddish is already a New York Times bestselling author. She published her debut memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, in 2017, where she wrote about her experience in foster care as a child and finding her voice in comedy. Haddish also published a children’s book, Layla the Last Black Unicorn, in 2022, about a young Black unicorn who attends school for the first time.

"I think everyone grapples with, 'Who am I? Why am I here? What's my purpose? How do I fit in here?'” Haddish told PEOPLE in 2022. "And just being able to take a moment and say, I'm okay the way I am. Even if somebody else doesn't agree. As long as I feel good about how I am, then there's nothing that I need to change."

On Nov. 24, Haddish was arrested on a DUI charge after she fell asleep behind the wheel of her car. She told Entertainment Tonight, "I'm going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries," and explained to the outlet that her car, a Tesla, was self-parked when she fell asleep. It blocked parts of the street when she was arrested. Haddish also complimented how the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) handled the incident.

I Curse You With Joy
is "a journey of self-discovery and celebration," according to a press release, and incorporates lessons Haddish has learned throughout.

“This book is me, highs and lows,” she says in the press release. “The good, the bad, the ugly and of course the funny. The wig is off. I’m not wearing any makeup. No lashes. I’m going to spill the tea of my life, all the stuff that makes me more alive, more human and way more interesting than that beautiful wax mannequin of me in Madame Tussauds.”

I Curse You With Joy
will be released on May 7, 2024 by Diversion Books. An audio edition of the book will be released by Dreamscape Media, and will be read by the author.
