Timothy Olyphant has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming animated series Terminator Zero.
Due on August 29th, Terminator Zero will be an anime set in the Terminator universe, with Olyphant voicing the Terminator robot, sent back to 1997 to hunt down a scientist working on an AI system designed to compete with Skynet. The involvement of the Justified star was announced at a slate preview event Netflix hosted in Los Angeles, leading up to the Annecy Animation Festival next week.
According to Netflix, Olyphant’s Terminator will be similar to its predecessors. “It still can’t be bargained with,” an article on Netflix’s Tudum explained. “It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you’re dead.”

Terminator Zero was first announced in 2021, and will arrive as an eight-episode season, overseen by showrunner Mattson Tomlin. Speaking about the project, Tomlin said “Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart. I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations, and has real guts.”
Meanwhile, Olyphant recently starred in the new Justified series, Justified: City Primeval, which premiered last July.
