Top 10 things to do in the Coachella Valley this week, Sept.17-23

The Coachella Valley is home to a number of events and activities to take part in during the last days of summer. In anticipation for these events, we've put together a list of things happening this week.

Desert Hot Springs 60th Anniversary Celebration

The City of Desert Hot Springs is coming together to commemorate its 60th anniversary this month. The celebration will be held at Mission Springs Park and feature music performances by Las Tias from 3 to 4 p.m. and by OzomatIi from 6 to 7 p.m. In addition to live music, the event will include a beer garden, food, vendors, free kites and more. A free shuttle service to the park will run from 2 to 9 p.m. at Desert Hot Springs High School. Parking is limited at the event venue.

When: 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17

Ed Kabotie and Tha 'Yoties, Grand Canyon Tour

Head to Copper Mountain College this Wednesday for “Alter-Native” history and a “funky ‘Yotie party” with Native American rock n’ reggae band Ed Kabotie and Tha ‘Yoties in a two-part event. Ed Kabotie is set to incorporate elements of visual art, music, and education on the history and issues related to the Indigenous people and lands of the Southwest. At 7 p.m., Kabotie and Tha ‘Yoties will take the stage for a night of Native rock n’ reggae music. Food will be available for purchase through the CMC Food Truck Frenzy and Jorge's cafe. Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. No coolers, outside food, or alcoholic beverages are allowed.

When: “Alter-Native History" presentation kicks off at 2:30 p.m., concert event opens at 5 p.m. and concert starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20

ODESZA, The Last Goodbye Tour

This Wednesday, Arcisure Arena will feature a performance by electronic duo ODESZA. ODESZA mixes visuals, musicianship, and pyrotechnics to create an immersive experience for attendees. This live performance will also feature the support of Bob Moses, TOKiMONSTA, and OLAN & QRTR.

10th Annual Desert Fast Pitch Competition

The NPO Centric, a program of the Regional Access Project foundation, is hosting its 10th Annual Desert Fast Pitch competition this Thursday at the UC Riverside campus in Palm Desert. This event will bring together nonprofit professionals to compete for cash grants by pitching their innovative ideas and telling compelling satires in a "Sharktank" esque-style. Father Gregory Boyle, a New York Times bestselling author and the 2007 Humanitarian of the Year, will be present as a keynote speaker for the event.

Cinema Diverse Film Festival

Cinema Diverse and the Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival are recognizing the diversity of the gay community by spotlighting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender cinema from around the world. This multi-day event held at the Palm Springs Cultural Center will spotlight a vast array of films, shorts and documentaries. Passes are now being sold for this celebration of cinema.

Perez Art District Fourth Fridays Art Walk

The Perez Art District's Art walk is returning to Cathedral City this Friday. This immersive experience for art enthusiasts will provide attendees with the opportunity to explore the working studios of over 30 artists. Participants of this art walk can experience a wide range of artistic styles and mediums ranging from painting to sculpture.

Croce Plays Croce

A.J. Croce is set to play a complete set of classics from his late father Jim Croce, in addition to some original music, at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort & Spa this Friday. With 10 studio albums to his name and 30 years of touring, A.J. Croce has a catalog of original compositions. This special event will feature a number of timeless hits such as "Operator,” “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim,” “Time in a Bottle (a song written for A.J.)," “Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy)," and “Lovers Cross,” to name a few.

Films in the Garden Series 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'

The Sunnylands Center & Gardens is bringing back its Film in the Gardens series with a screening of the 1986 film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" this Friday. Filmgoers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and small picnics for this family-friendly event presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival. No food or seating will be provided. Large coolers, alcohol, smoking and pets are not allowed.

The WWE Supershow is set to hit Acrisure Arena this Saturday. With two primary touring groups, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown, the show will feature WWE superstars from both.
