Vin Diesel Edges Past ‘Furious’ Co-Star Dwayne Johnson to Become 2017’s Top-Grossing Actor

The feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just got a lot more interesting, as Diesel edged out Johnson to become 2017’s top-grossing actor at the box office.

According to Forbes, Diesel topped the list with $1.6 billion in global ticketing receipts, thanks to the success of “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” and “Fate of the Furious,” which stars both action superstars.

While “xXx” earned over $346 million at the global box office, the eighth installment of the “Fast and Furious” series took in $1.2 billion in 2017, and the two costars’ success this year were largely due to that one film.

Johnson came in a close second with $1.5 billion, as his other film, “Baywatch,” was one of the biggest bombs of 2017 and earned a total of $177 million globally.

“Wonder Woman” headliner Gal Gadot came in at No. 3 on the list, with $1.4 billion earned from the global box office success of her DC films “Wonder Woman” and “Justice League.”

To calculate the rankings of the top grossing actors, Forbes tallied up the 2017 global ticket sales of major actors’ films as of Dec. 26, 2017. They did not count animated movies where only the actors voices were used and only included actors who were top-billed in leading roles or had the most screen time.
