And the Winner of ‘American Idol’ 2024 Is...

Tonight was the night when the search for the next singing sensation revealed the winner of American Idol for 2024 from among the Top 3 finalists: Abi Carter, Jack Blocker and Will Moseley.

But first, the Top 3 had to sing for the final time on the American Idol stage. Each performed twice: an upbeat number and a ballad. And they were coached by none other than Jon Bon Jovi, their mentor for the night, who also performed.

Then there were the hometown visits: Abi to Indio, Calif., Jack to Dallas, Texas, and Will to Hazelhurst, Ga.

In addition to the solo performances, the Top 3 and returning contestants from Season 7 on ABC (Season 22 overall) also performed duets with guest artists, including Hootie and the Blowfish, New Kids on the Block, Jason Mraz, Wynonna Judd, CeCe Winans, Cody Johnson, Seal, James Bey, Bishop Briggs, and Season 14 winner Nick Fradiani, who's been performing on Broadway in A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical. But those performances were not critiqued by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, who also performed during the three-hour 2024 finale.

Then America will vote, and the new American Idol will be named.

Here’s how the night played out:

The show kicked off with Abi, Jack and Will tackling Jon Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” and this week’s mentor joined them onstage.

Will Moseley

Song: “It’s My Life” by Jon Bon Jovi

Lionel said: “Way to go Will Moseley. You’re there. Let it go. From now on for the rest of your career, let it go and enjoy yourself.”

Jack Blocker

Song: “I’ll Be There For You” by Jon Bon Jovi

Katy said: “It’s pretty surreal that we’re all here considering the complicated relationship we started with. You are still pushing yourself. You sound good. You look good. No one is blocking Jack Blocker. Even me.”

Abi Carter

Song: “Bed of Roses” by Jon Bon Jovi

Luke said: “That was tremendous. I think the room is saying what they feel. That was incredible.”

Then it was time for the hometown dedications.

Will Moseley

Song: “My Town” by Montgomery Dentry

Lionel said: “You can make that song your staple because coming home and having a sell out in your hometown is like no other sell out. I loved it man.”

Song: “All My Ex’s Live in Texas” by George Strait

Katy said: “That’s what we talked about. That footloose and fancy free, that is your bread and butter. It doesn’t matter what happens tonight, that’s going to make you a star.”

Abi Carter

Song: “Somewhere” from West Side Story

Lionel said: “That was a showstopping moment. It doesn’t get any better than that when you can take it down to silence and kill the show.”

Fantasia Barino returned to celebrate the 20^th anniversary of winning American Idol.

Then the non-voting portion of the entertainment began with Julia Gagnon and Jason Mraz pairing up on his “I Feel Like Dancing.”

Next was Seal paired with Jayna Elise on “Crazy.”

Finally, it was time for host Ryan Seacrest to announce the first result of the night. Moving into the Top 2 were Will and Abi. Idol then returned to the non-competitive entertainment with McKenna Faith Reinhold and Kaibrienne joining James Bey on “Let It Go.”

James Bey was followed by Luke Bryan with “Love You, Miss You, Mean It.” He was then joined by Mia Matthews for George Strait’s “Run.”

Lionel Richie took the stage next with “Running in the Night," joined by the Top 12.

Triston Harper and Cody Johnson paired up on “’Til You Can’t.” They Were followed by Abi Carter and Bishop Briggs on “Triumph.”

With Katy’s departure being imminent, Idol took a look back at fun times with the judges from this season.

Nick Fradiani took the stage for a Neil Diamond medley of “America” and “Sweet Caroline” with the men of the Top 12.

Will Moseley joined Hootie and the Blowfish on a medley of their hits.

Next Jack Blocker and Katy Perry teamed up on ‘What Makes a Woman,” followed by New Kids on the Block paired with Kayko on “You Got It (The Right Stuff).”

Then Emmy Russell paired up with Wynonna on Loretta Lynn’s “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “No One Else on Earth.”

The music continued with Roman Collins teaming up with Cece Winans on "Goodness of God, followed by the women of the Top 12 singing a Katy Perry medley: “Teenage Dream, “Dark Horse” and “California Gurls.”

The final round of the competition began with a look at Will and Abi’s journeys. Then they performed their new singles.

Lionel said: “All I can say to you is you came a long way for a guy that I didn’t not sit through your audition. You made it.”

Abi Carter

Song: “This Isn’t Over”

The noise in the audience was too loud for the judges to speak.

Then the votes were tallied and the new American Idol is Abi Carter.
