Two years ago, Allison Lanier, who plays Summer on Young and the Restless, walked the red carpet at the Daytime Emmys as an attendee. This year, she’s talking to Soap Hub about going to the ceremony as a nominee!

An Honor to Be Nominated

“I was working on set,” Lanier tells Soap Hub about where she was when she found out that voters had nominated her in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. “I had totally forgotten they were being announced. (Click here to read a complete list of nominees). There were a lot of people on set with me. It was really fun.”

The actress credits Matt Kane, director of publicity and talent for Y&R, for helping her select her reel. While some submissions tell a cohesive story and others are comprised of a series of more un-related scenes, Lanier suggests that her reel is a bit of both.

“They were all related to each other, but I didn’t necessarily put them in chronological order,” she says. “There were three main beats — Summer’s grief and fury at Diane [Susan Walters over Diane’s role in Phyllis’s “death”], a moment of heartbreak between her and Kyle [Michael Mealor] when they decided to let go of their marriage, and then, Summer finds Phyllis [Michelle Stafford] alive and all the emotions associated with that.”

Lanier’s not sure what to expect quite yet in terms of how attending the show as a guest and a nominee differs, but she is feeling a difference on the inside. “It’s definitely special,” she says. “I’m excited to turn it up a notch.”

Lanier is also looking forward to interacting with fellow nominees in her category, which includes co-star Courtney Hope (Sally) as well as Days of our LivesLinsey Godfrey (Sarah) and Emily O’Brien (Gwen), and Jennifer Gareis (Donna, Bold and the Beautiful).

“I’m familiar with Courtney, of course,” Allison Lanier says. “But I’m not as familiar with [Linsey, Emily, and Jennifer]. But I know their names and I’ve seen them around. I’m excited to get to know them a little better. I know that everyone is incredibly talented. I’m honored to be amongst them.”
